FAQ

What is the Vision?

Community on mission with Jesus.

(John 1:14; John 20:21; Acts 4:11-12; Acts 20:24; Ephesians 4:11-14; Ephesians 5:1-2; 1 Timothy 6:17-19; 1 Peter 3:14-15)

Who is in charge

Jesus Christ is in charge, our head, and under him serve competent and qualified leadership called elders.

(Acts 2:42; Acts 6:1-6; Acts 14:23; Philippians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9)

What is the Mission?

To bring glory to God by making disciples of Jesus.

(Matthew 28:19-20; Ephesians 3:8-13; 1 Timothy 3:14-15)

What about services?

Services are called ‘Gatherings’ or ‘Family Reunions’ and they are an opportunity to encourage one another, sing praise to God, hear the Gospel proclaimed, and celebrate communion

(Acts 2:42,47; Acts 2:11; Jn.17:21; 1 Jn 4:12-15; Matt 2:11;4:9;8:2;28:9;Rev.19:10).

These ‘Gatherings’ are yet another opportunity to invite neighbours into a more “typical” expression of church.

What is your strategy?

Church of the City is made up of family groups called Missional Communities who move into neighbourhoods or stay in their neighbourhood with other believers and live on mission. Each Missional Community has a defined group of people they are on mission to and they serve together.

The Missional Community is committed to doing life together, to reorienting their lives around one another’s. When disciples are made and the group grows through neighbourhood mission, the group splits and new groups are formed to be on mission to a different set of people in the neighbourhood. The process of splitting is painful but it gives way to new birth.
